Premier League Cup Group Match

Plymouth Devils 46, Somerset Rebels 43

SOMERSET Rebels were unable to follow up Friday’s emphatic victory over Plymouth when the sides reconvened in Devon for the return fixture, as they slipped to a narrow defeat on Saturday.

The Rebels travelled to the St Boniface arena on Saturday night, looking to bring home some more points to add to their current Premier League Cup tally.

In a small way they came away with mission accomplished, but with a little good fortune it could have been a whole lot better.

Whilst four points from the two matches against Plymouth is a welcome addition to the Rebel pot, it could have been so much better - and they will consider themselves a little unlucky not to take a win here, especially following the mechanical problems suffered by Brady Kurtz and Paul Starke.

On the plus side, Leigh Lanham produced another superb showing to head the Rebels scoring, backed up by good contributions from Josh Grajczonek and Richie Worrall.

The Devils showed they are a difficult proposition with a full side, and on their own track, where Ashley Morris backed up Ryan Fisher, both scoring ten points, plus bonus points.

On Friday, The Rebels cruised to a 59-31 victory at the Oaktree Arena, with Brady Kurtz top scoring with 15.

Kurtz performance was backed up by Josh Grajczonek (11+1) and Charles Wright (10+1), with Richie Worrall steadily getting in the grove - and showing some improved form for his 9+2 haul.

Paul Starke had a good night, whilst Leigh Lanham gave a battling performance for little reward.

Brady Kurtz was the understandable choice of meeting sponsors Whitepack Network Services for the ‘Rider of the Night’ trophy.

The Rebels next home action will be on Friday, April 10, with the visit of Rye House, but before that they travel to Ipswich, with both matches part of the League Cup programme.
