Cup Final 2015

Gems 40, Hovelands 43

GEMS suffered a heartbreaking three-point defeat to Hovelands in Saturday’s cup final.

Gems started slowly in the first and second quarters of the game with silly mistakes allowing Hovelands to take a slight lead.

Nevertheless, Gems dug deep, and at half time with Hovelands leading by seven goals, great team work, determination and accurate shooting, brought the score level.

Great pressure from the Gems team, forced the opposition into making mistakes and the resulting interceptions and possession from the defenders, ensured the game in the third quarter went Gems’ way.

Fantastic support from the coaches and great support from an encouraging crowd kept Gems in positive mood.

Going in to the final quarter, Hovelands edged the lead by three goals - and with an end to end game, the final five minutes of the game brought great fight from both sides, but Gems could not close the gap as Hovelands retained their three point lead to win 43 – 40.

Player of the match went to Justine Pearne, Hannah Clapp, Danielle Keirle and Kerry Fellows.

EMERALDS started the game steadily with a score of 9-3 to Mars at the end of the first quarter.

Emeralds then made some changes at the start of the second quarter which resulted in giving them the chance to even the score.

The strong play throughout the Emeralds team continued into the third quarter with excellent defending, centre-court play and fantastic shooting which resulted in Emeralds taking the lead.

In the final quarter, Emeralds continued the lead.

The whole team played magnificently which resulted in the final score of 25-22 to Emeralds.

THE final Junior Tournament of the season took place on Sunday – and for the under 16 and under 12 teams, this meant the final rounds of their league.

The under 16 age group had a fantastic win against Yeovil II, winning the game 19-8.

There was a fantastic display of netball skills from all the girls - and you can see how much they have developed in their game.

With Rhenne Lee encouraging her team from start to end, she linked well with Savanna Sulmina at GK, to limit the successful shots at goal by Yeovil.

Jess Bull supported well at WD and showed some great understanding with centre Kirsty Richards.

Paige Currie placed many great balls into the circle to shooters Tilly Milburn and Katie Rowles.

The under 12 team were hit with unavailability for this tournament, however, some willing under 11 players fitted in very well.

Whilst the team did not win any matches, they played with enthusiasm and learnt a lot from the day.

The whole squad then played as an under 11 team, playing their matches as friendlies.

They had five games, drawing two of them, and losing three closely.

Players who took part were Elizabeth Purchase, Charlotte Hill, Rhiannon Crabtree, Paris Simeon, Kia Phipps, Ellen Ashford, Maddy Dyte and Tiffany Roberts.

The under 14 team have finished their league, so were playing in a friendly tournament.

They played five matches against teams that had been playing in both the A and B leagues throughout the season. The team played well together, showing great skill and were unlucky to only win one of their games.

The players involved were Paige Currie, Jess Bull, Savanna Sulmina, Hannah Ainsworth, Lilly Paul, Holly Holder and Courtnie-Mae Phipps.

Thanks today to Michelle Parr for umpiring, and to Carly Martin, Beth Fella and Amy Edmundson for their coaching all season.
