Bridgwater Town Reserves 2, Minehead 2

BRIDGWATER Town Reserves fought back from two goals down to earn a point at home to Minehead on Saturday.

Charlie White scored twice in the second-half for Town to extend their unbeaten league run to a remarkable 13 games.

Manager Luke Buckingham said: “It was an entertaining game of football with both sides looking to play with a positive attacking style.

“I was very disappointed with our first half display and we were lucky to still be in the game, but we’ve got such great character and belief in the team we turned it around and we were unlucky not to win the game in the end.

“It was great to have a good crowd down to support the team and we are building momentum having not lost in the league since August.”

Bridgwater started brightly, dominating territory and possession in the opening minutes but Minehead took the lead with a freak goal, when a miss-hit cross from the right wing looped into the top corner.

Bridgwater started the second half well and John Matthews looked to have levelled up but his rasping volley crashed over the bar.

A minute later, Bridgwater were two down when the home defence failed to react to a short corner and the ball was swept in from close range.

Minehead looked to close out the game and reverted to a back five and Bridgwater responded by introducing Harry Fitchew and Lee Villis for Chris Young and John Matthews.

Bridgwater reduced the deficit with 30 minutes left when Charlie White’s powerful header found the top corner of the net after Rhys Hayward excellent corner.

Bridgwater were now dominating proceedings with the pace of Villis and White a constant thorn in the opposition’s side.

The scores were levelled with five minutes left when Mike Duffy’s wide free-kick was cleared and Charlie White thundered home his second with an unstoppable strike.

Bridgwater end the year on a tough mission when they travel to runaway leaders Shirehampton on Saturday (ko 2pm).
