Premier/First Division County Cup

Middlezoy Rovers 1, Berrow 5

FOUR goals in the opening 15 minutes of extra-time saw Berrow surge into the quarter finals of the league cup with a 5-1 victory over Middlezoy on Saturday.

Craig Wright had fired the visitors in front on the stroke of half-time but Scott Lismore levelled things up on 70 minutes to force extra-time – and, from here, the Premier Division outfit’s class and fitness shone through with four unanswered goals in the first-half of extra time.

Scott Lismore completed his hat-trick and there was one goal apiece for Byron Lismore and Jack Taylor, as Berrow avoided an upset to book their place in the last eight Berrow started well as the hosts struggled to cope with the pace and movement of the visitors, and only desperate defending denied Berrow an early lead.

The game settled and became a very even affair but ’Zoy stole the lead with virtually the last kick of the half with a well-taken effort from Wright.

The hosts came out with intent in the second half, only to be thwarted by Berrow’s back line with Kyle McErlain and Byron Lismore dominant, well backed up by Jack Shepherd and Steve Osgood.

As the half wore on the visitors were dominating possession with no real final product, until Jack Taylor’s clever flick-on set Scott Lismore clean through and he made no mistake with the finish.

The hosts then had the chance to edge ahead again but were denied by a brilliant save from Chris Warner in the Berrow goal.

The referee signalled the end of normal time with the scores level.

The first half of extra-time saw Berrow go goal-crazy, finding the net four times, the first an excellent swivel and hit from Scott Lismore that nestled in the top corner.

Next in on the act was his brother, Byron, who flicked the ball round his marker, ran on and beat the on-rushing keeper with a cool finish.

Lismore then completed his hat-trick after a goalmouth melee – and top scorer Jack Taylor rounded off the scoring, ending a three-game drought in the process, as he raced on and beat the keeper from a tight angle.

l Berrow return to Premier League action on Saturday when they visit second-placed Clutton.
