Highbridge Town 5-1 Churchill Club 70

HIGHBRIDGE Town manager Matt Pitt believes his side are finally beginning to show what they are made of at County League level, following Saturday's 5-1 thrashing of Churchill Club 70.

Two goals from Will Bailey and further strikes from Chris Taylor, Kane Powell and Mike Green fired Highbridge to a comfortable win - and Pitt has urged his players to kick-on towards the top end of the table.

He said: “We're are performing to the level we have expected since the start of the season and these past five to six games is showing what we are really made of.

“Today's game was a great example of all the strengths we have across the field with Stuart Green impressing at centre half.

“I have every confidence going into every game now that we can get a result and all credit must go to the boys for putting in the effort they are doing even with missing key players to suspension and injury.

“I feel with the run of games coming up if we keep the level of performances where they are we are only eight points off second and can continue to push up this league - and who knows, maybe start knocking on the door for top two.”

The game started on a wet and very heavy pitch and it took Town only 10 minutes to take the lead when Will Bailey turned the ball home.

Shortly after it was 2-0 when a Taylor's cross come shot sailed straight over the keeper into the top corner.

Kane Powell continued his fine scoring form with a great finish from the edge of the box to make it 3-0.

Before the break it was four with Mike Green getting on to the score sheet for the second week running.

Town started the second half with a great drive from Bailey to put Town 5-0 up - and Highbridge were found napping from a set piece which led to a Churchill goal, but the game was over before that goal was conceded.

Highbridge travel to highly placed and promotion chasing Uphill Castle on Saturday in what will be a great game with Town looking for revenge on the 4-1 loss handed to them at the end of October by Uphill.
