CALVERLEIGH lead Division A of the Sampford Peverell and district league following a narrow defeat of Globetrotters.

Bullocks share top spot in Division B with HCC1 while Lion Cubs have been joined at the top of Division C by Tiverton RBL.

Reports: The game between Redwoods and Bradninch C Club went down to the wire. After four legs the scores were level. The Cricketers left the home team to get 134 to win and they posted 135.

Settler Boys had a bad day at the office as they lost at home to Globe Appley B. GAB led the way and though they were only six pins up after two legs, added steadily to that to take the win.

Though the legs were shared between The Hounds and Castaways, the home were winning their legs by large amounts. They were on alley first and were 14 pins up after two legs, and pulled a further 42 over the middle two legs. Game over.

There was a good home win for Lumberjacks as they comfortably beat Brass Monkeys. After three hands the home team were 32 pins ahead and there was no way back for the Monkeys.

Bellies struggled as they went down heavily at home to Barmy Army. Apart from sharing the second leg and a narrow win on the fifth the home team just didn’t fire.

Calverleigh went to the top of the league thanks to a narrow victory over Globetrotters. The Trotters won four of the legs, but the home team’s winning two legs gave them a two-pin win.

Globe Appley’s first two legs against Queens Head gave no indication of what was to come. GA, on alley first, were four pins up, but then went bananas. Charging into a 37 pin lead over the middle two legs, they gave no quarter and finished the game 60 pins to the good.

DIVISION B: results – All Blacks 425, Barley Mow 395; The Agri-Nuts 358, HCC1 368; The Beare 348, Crossways 368; The Merriemeade 413, Bullocks 369; Bickleigh 387, Ayshford Arms 400; Oggies 378, Uplowman 363; The Ponies, bye; Bradninch RBL 405, Roy’s Rebels 382. High Scores: 67 – Paul Tooze (The Merriemeade, three spares); 66 – B Bussell (Bradninch RBL, three spares).

Reports: All Blacks came flying out the traps against Barley Mow, going 21 clear after two. The away side made a game of it in the middle rubs but the All Blacks soon pulled away again to win by 30.

The Agri-Nuts dropped ten pins to HCC1 in the first two legs. And despite sharing the last four legs that’s how the deficit remained, giving the away team the win.

The Beare managed to win only one rub on the way to a 20 pin loss to the Crossways who pick up their first away win.

The Merriemeade dropped three in the second leg against the Bullocks but pulled a very tasty 47 in the rest for their first home win.

Bickleigh were up against it from the off against Ayshford Arms, and though they managed to pull some pins back and take the lead, the away side pulled away again in the last.

The Oggies beat an out of form Uplowman by 15 pins. The away team made a late bid but were too far behind.

Bradninch RBL skittled second but came first against Roy’s Rebels who not could contain the home team who ran away 23 pin winners.

DIVISION C: results – Knock Em Down 328, Tiverton Chiefs 314; Heathcoat Hulas 365, Ashill Inn 350; Booze Cruzers 392, Huntsham A 405; Halfway House 401, Rose & Crown 354; The Travellers 382, Catherine Wheel 398; HCC2 295, Tiverton RBL 326; Lion Cubs 453, The Farmers 474.

High Scores: 70 – P Fyles (Lion Cubs, three spares); 69 – G Westcott (The Farmers, two spares), 69 – S Prescott (Huntsham A, four spares); 68 – N Farley (The Farmers, three spares); 66 – B Palfrey (The Farmers, four spares); 65 – R Gooding (Lion Cubs, two spares).

Reports: There was welcome win for Knock Em Down as they had a fairly close game against Tiverton Chiefs. The teams shared the legs, but the home team had 14 pull on the fourth leg, and the Chiefs could not haul them in.

Heathcoat Hulas following Ashill Inn on alley went level after the fourth leg, and then won the last two to take the points.

Booze Cruzers lost their second game in a row as Huntsham A returned to winning ways. The away team took to the alley first and laid down the template for the game, as they won the first two legs taking 21 pins. They then proceeded to win the rest of the legs.

Halfway House had an impressive victory over Rose & Crown as they won the first leg by 17, leaving the away team play catch. Two legs were shared but the three legs the home team won were done so with large margins.

The first leg was shared in the game between The Travellers and Catherine Wheel, but then the away team took charge over the next four. The home team were 22 pins down going into the last leg, which they did win, but it was never enough.

HCC2 struggled to contain Tiverton RBL. Apart from the fifth leg the away team won the rest. This win puts RBL joint top of the division.

Lion Cubs lost their unbeaten record as The Farmers took their first win of the season. The away team were five pins ahead after two legs, and then won the next two, following with a fifth leg four-spare 94.
