ILMINSTER Cricket Club celebrated a successful season with their annual dinner and presentation night at the Shrubbery Hotel.

Nearly 100 players, club officials, friends, family and guests attended the event.

Chairman Paul Knight thanked everyone for their support during the year which had seen Ilminster win the Premier Two division of the West of England League and narrowly lose out in the final of the Somerset Major Club Cup at the County Ground in Taunton.

Mr Knight said: “It’s been a fantastic year. lminster is a very special club and I’d like to thank all those who have given their support.”

The clubman of the year award for 2014 was shared by Neil Dopson and Mark Warfield, while there was a gift presented to John Pallister who was standing down as groundsman.

First team captain Sam Spurway said it had been an “unbelievable summer” in which the club had bounced back in fantastic style after the previous season which had seen them relegated from Premier One without winning a game.

It was an exciting end to the season for Ilminster where there were plenty of twists and turns.

And Spurway said: “It’s been one of the best seasons I have been involved in.

“Winning the league was great – thinking we’d won it one weekend, thinking we’d lost it the next.

“There were five or six players who could have won the first team’s player of the season award.”

But the award went to talented all-rounder Louis Kraucamp who hit 939 runs for Ilminster during the season.

Spurway added: “Without him we wouldn’t have done it.”
