WESSEX Water fisheries performances for the weekend ending August 17: HAWKRIDGE With 42 fish caught and a rod average of 1.6 the fishing is improving now that the weather has finally cooled off, says ranger Gary Howe.

Fishing the shallows from boats is highly recommended, and anglers who fish floating lines with Buzzers, Damsel, Daddy’s or Blobs are returning with good catches.

The largest bag limit of the week was caught by P. Southey weighing 17lb 5oz.

CLATWORTHY With 218 fish caught and a rod average of 2.3 it has been a good week on the reservoir, says senior ranger Dave Pursey.

The best bag of the week was cvaugth by G. Bristow, weighing 19lb 4oz, while A. Maclean had a bag weighing 18lb 15oz and R. Cross had a bag weighing 18lb 4oz for their five-fish limits.] P. Giles had a four-fish limit weighing 14lb 6oz, R. Humphrey had the best rainbow of the week, weighing 5lb 8oz, and S. Safstead, from Victoria, Australia, caught a 2lb brown trout.

With the weather unsettled for most of the week, intermediate lines with Damsel, Montana and Buzzer patterns worked best, moving on to sinking lines with lures as conditions changed.

When conditions were right fish were caught just under the surface on floating lines drifting with the wind with Nymph and Buzzer patterns.

With the weather staying unsettled tactics will remain similar with fish caught on intermediate lines with Blue Flash Damsel and Montana.

Boats will do well in bays and margins, and the bank will fish well from the lodge up to Rowes End.
