Somerset County Division two West
Burnham United Reserves 2, Combe St Nicholas 4
A DETERMINED performance from Burnham United Reserves wasn’t enough to avoid a convincing home defeat by a strong Combe St Nicholas side on Saturday.
Burnham’s back line of Matt Young, Joe Rossiter, Kieran McLauchlan and Jordan Costello stayed strong early on to ensure a goalless first 25 minutes with young Nathan James, making his senior debut in goal, dealing with any shots.
However, the opening goal from Combe cam from a long way out, and they scored again soon after to make it 2-0.
Mike Burnell headed in for Burnham from a Harry Wedgewood-Potts delivery to make the half-time score 2-1.
In the second half it was much the same with Burnham defending for the majority of the half and Aaron Hardwidge outstanding in the middle of the park.
Combe added a couple more goals on the hour, but Burnham continued to battle and scored from a sweeping counter-attack which Joe Selway coolly finished off.
