Somerset County Premier
Yatton Athletic 3, Berrow 2 (Saturday)
Berrow 1, Watchet Town 3 (Monday)
BERROW suffered a miserable Bank Holiday weekend as they slumped to defeat against Watchet Town and Yatton Athletic.
After slipping to an embarrassing defeat against a Yatton team reduced to nine men, Berrow had the opportunity to put things right against Watchet on Bank Holiday Monday.
For 60 minutes or so it looked as though they would do just that as they took the lead midway through the first half courtesy of Jack Taylor.
But then Berrow proceeded to implode – after an error gifted Watchet an equaliser they were reduced to ten men when a similar mistake led to Watchet’s front man being clean through.
Chris Warner, in the Berrow goal, brought the Watchet striker down, was deemed to be denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and was duly dismissed.
Shaun Lismore took Warner’s place in goal, but his first action was to pick the ball out of the back of the net from the resulting penalty kick.
Watchet rubbed salt into the gaping Berrow wounds as they hit a third in the closing minutes.
Berrow were their own worst enemy in both games and the hard work of pre-season appears to have been forgotten.
They must get back to basics if they are to compete with last season’s runners-up, Clutton, at Red Road Saturday.
