Cheddar Reserves 1, Highbridge Town 1

HIGHBRIDGE Town’s unbeaten start to life in the county league continued with a 1-1 draw at Cheddar Reserves on Saturday.

Chris Taylor grabbed Highbridge’s only goal of the game on 25 minutes with a superbly struck long range effort before Cheddar levelled things from the penalty spot shortly before the break.

In a physical opening period, Highbridge put a young Cheddar side under early pressure.

It was no surprise when the visitors took the lead courtesy of a wonder strike from Taylor, who collected the ball 20 yards from the Cheddar goal and unleashed a powerful effort into the top corner.

Cheddar began to get a grip on the game on the half hour with midfielder Chris Beers influencing play in the centre of the park.

They equalised when striker Adam Green was fouled inside the penalty area and Chris Williams stepped up to convert the resulting spot kick.

The second half was a much quieter affair with both sets of defenders dominating the play.

Both sides pushed to score the winner, but neither was able to find it as the game ended all square.

Highbridge Town’s next county league game is at home against Clevedon United Reserves on August 30.
