Evesham 0, Bridgwater Town 0

BRIDGWATER Town came back from Worcestershire with a hard-fought point from a goalless draw, writes Eddie Robinson.

The scoreline confirmed that the defenders were on top, but in an entertaining first half when Bridgwater were passing the ball neatly in midfield their front men, Chamberlain and Knighton, could make nothing of high balls pumped through the middle against two big and rugged defenders.

Balls along the ground down the channels gave them a much better chance to show their skills, and a good move from left to right ended with Rendell having Town’s first effort on goal.

Edenborough crashed a 25-yard shot against the woodwork as the home team posed the greater threat.

Bridgwater’s best opportunity of the half came on 18 minutes when Allwood burst down the left and found Rendell, whose cross reached Chamberlain in space, but the Evesham keeper was too close to enable the youngster to prod the ball past him – credit to the keeper for a fine reaction save.

None of Bridgwater’s four first half corners threatened to produce a goal, while at the other end desperate defending under the crossbar twice saw Evesham go close.

The second half was a much flatter affair as the standard fell away.

Neither side was able to create chances as Evesham played the second period without the threat of Edenborough and Watts, who had to be replaced.

The game ended on a sour note for Town as Twooze was sent off for a needless challenge in the final minutes.
