THE Somerset Rebels take on the Edinburgh Monarchs tonight in a rare Wednesday night home fixture.

The meeting promises to be a cracker as it brings together the top two teams in the Premier League.

Edinburgh have certainly been the form side so far this year, going some 24 matches before they tasted defeat - and they currently lead the Premier League table, with Somerset are hot on their heels.

Wednesday’s match will almost be a case of déjà vu as it was the Monarchs who Somerset beat last year over what amounted to two titanic legs of the Championship-deciding Play-Off Final - and the same two teams are very much in prime position to be heading into the Play-Offs once again this year.

Like Somerset, Edinburgh have made a number of personnel changes since that epic Final of 2013 - having retained Craig Cook, the league’s number one rider, Max Fricke and skipper Derek Sneddon from the ‘class of 2013’ to which they have added ex-Rebels Sam Masters and Justin Sedgmen together with Steve Worrall and young American rider Aaron Fox.

Somerset will be tracking their full 1-7 for this mouth-watering top of the table clash, the Rebels promotion hoping for a bumper crowd on Wednesday night for what promises to be one of the matches of the season at the Oaktree Arena.

Promoter Debbie Hancock said: “We really want the Oaktree Arena to be full of Somerset fans for Wednesday night’s match against Edinburgh, we have had some real classic matches against the Monarchs over the past few seasons, and this match has all the hallmarks of it being another to add to that list.

“Outside of the actual Play-Offs, matches don’t come any bigger than this. Our boys have been excellent all year, especially at home, and have hit a good run of form which has taken us into second place, hot on the heels of the Monarchs, so the call is for all Somerset fans to get to the Oaktree Arena on Wednesday and get right behind the team for this top of the table clash.”

Following the main meeting their will be a six heat challenge match between teams representing Exeter and Castleford.
