WESSEX Water fisheries performance for the week ending July 27.

HAWKRIDGE WITH 21 fish caught and a rod average of 1.2 the fishing remains difficult at Hawkridge due to high water temperatures, but some anglers have managed to catch from the deeper water, says ranger Gary Howe.

Various patterns are working – pulling Damsels through the bubbles when the airline is on has produced some good sport.

Boat bookings are advisable as the fish tend to move out from the bank at this time of year.

CLATWORTHY WITH 115 fish caught and a rod average of 1.3, the temperatures have been around the 30°C mark this week, and, coupled with bright conditions, this has made the fishing harder, says ranger Dave Pursey.

The anglers fishing from boats did the best landing fish just out from the bank and moving into deeper water as the sun got stronger in the middle part of the day.

The best bag of the week went to T. Foster, weighing 17lb 8oz.

Season ticket holder T. Underhill had four fish weighing 16lb, which included the best fish of the week, weighing 5lb 8oz.

Some fish have been taken from the bank early in the day this week, but the most success has come from boats moving around picking fish up in the deeper water out from the margins, using lures fished slowly on sinking lines.

With the weather set to cool down a bit it will still be sinking lines with lures and fry patterns which look likely to bring the most success for anglers.

Boats will do best this week with the airline coming on.

SUTTON BINGHAM THE reservoir water temperature is currently 23°C and there are very few fish showing, and they are certainly not feeding, says Ivan Tinsley, senior ranger.

Sixteen anglers fished this week and only two managed to land a fish.

Anglers should ring before visiting Sutton Bingham so they don’t travel long distances to be disappointed.

The hot weather is not suitable for trout fishing, so anglers need to wait until the water temperature cools.

Ivan suggests you enjoy the summer!
