GENUINE stars of the county football scene were honoured at Somerset Football Association’s annual awards evening.

The occasion, witnessed by more than 200 people at Somerset County Cricket Club in Taunton, was a chance for the Somerset FA to recognise and reward outstanding contributions and achievements in football by leagues, clubs and volunteers in Somerset in the past 12 months.

Awards were presented in 27 different categories, eight of which were sponsored by McDonald’s through the FA’s Community Awards scheme, while selected awards were sponsored by Ivan Rendall and Co Accountants, the Somerset Activity & Sports Partnership and Bridgwater College.

Special guests on the evening were Lucy Wellings, FA national business manager, Simon Wood, FA regional business manager, and Somerset FA board members.

The evening was closed by Somerset FA director of development Bob Hemburrow, and the county association’s chief executive, Jon Pike, said: “I’d like to congratulate all the winners on their thoroughly deserved awards.

“All of them have done an outstanding job in their particular field and I’m pleased that we can recognise and acknowledge that achievement.”
