THE Burnham & Berrow annual Captains’ Charity Day raised over £11,000 for the local based 'Help the Child' Charity.

Over 140 competitors turned out to support the event - and Burnham members Andy Towens and Brian Colome, playing alongside Scott Nightingale from Worthing, won the team event with 81 points in the bowmaker format.

This gave them a four shot victory over David Doley from Shrewsbury, David Clibbourne from Beau Desert and Martin Preddy from Weston-Super-Mare who scored 77 points.

Two of the ladies teams also fared well with Liz Matthews, Ros Gait and Jane Cooper tied for 4th place with Jane Pitcher, Jean Booth and Jill Evans both scoring 75.

At the presentation, the Club Captain Neil Darby paid thanks and tribute to the efforts of the team that organised and run the event that was supported by main sponsors Howard Garages and many other local businesses, as well as all the competitors, who by participating in the competition and other challenges during the day contributed to the magnificent total raised.

The Burnham & Berrow Golf Club Seniors Open also saw a full field competing in warm balmy conditions last Monday.

C Payne from Wells Golf Club took the honours in a close run event after a countback from P Craddock from Redditch Golf Club and P Lindo from The Bristol Golf Club after the trio had tied with 36 points.
