PHIL Moulding lifted his first major singles trophy at Tiverton when winning the men’s Flowers Cup.
Moulding, aided by a birdie on the 13th and five pars on the back nine, carded a five-under nett 66 to earn a handicap cut from 16 to 15.
Now off 14.9, the builder ensured his handicap went back below that of his wife Jane, who was cut to 15.2 after winning the ladies’ July Medal three days earlier.
Alex Gibson came second with 67 and although he birdied the 18th and three other holes, the teenager will regret a quadruple bogey eight on the 17th.
David Colclough finished third on 68, a score matched by Paul Baker, who wasn’t eligible to win a prize as he hadn’t played in three qualifying competitions.
Rhys Cruse posted a gross 68 and Harry Konig a 69 as they completed the top five.
