Burnham 135-3 beat Belvedere 132-8 by seven wickets

ROB Driver struck an unbeaten half-century to guide Burnham to their first league win of the season, as they beat Belvedere by seven wickets on Saturday.

Driver (60no) was in fine form for the hosts and was ably backed up by Darren Aston (21no), Andy Smith (19) and Jim Bloodworth (15) to give Burnham victory inside 38 overs.

Earlier, Ed Booth was the pick of the bowlers for Burnham, returning figures of 3-28 from his ten overs, while James Annison (2-40) and Mike Green (2-30) both chipped in with two wickets apiece.

The bowler's efforts helped to restrict Belvedere to a below par 132-8 from their 45 overs, with only Chadwick (36) and McCrea (29) making any noticeable contributions.

Robinson (16no) provided some late fireworks for the visitors, but Burnham would have been more than happy with their first innings effort.

Openers Smith and Bloodworth were forced to be patient in reply, with McCrea (1-9 from eight overs) bowled a tight line and length.

But it was at the other end that scoring became easier and pair began to find some rhythm with a flurry of boundaries.

Smith fell to the economical McCrea, before Bloodworth departed to the bowling of Crockett (1-28).

Brad House had moved on to 11 when he became Chadwick's (1-20) only victim of the afternoon, but Driver was looking in impeccable touch at the other end and moved on to fifty with another sumptuous drive.

Aston was content to knock the ball around and rotate the strike, as Burnham edged closer to an all important maiden win - and the victory was sealed in the 38th over when Driver struck Crockett over the infield to finish unbeaten on 60.

Burnham travel to Castle Cary this Saturday.
