THE Avenue Tennis Club in Burnham played host to the prestigious AEGON under 12 county cup qualifying event last weekend.
Teams from Somerset, Avon, Wiltshire, Devon, Cornwall and Gloucestershire each entered a team of four boys to take part in the singles and doubles matches, which were held over the two days.
The eventual winners were home team Somerset, whose team also included local player Harry Burrows, whose family are members of the Avenue club. Official LTA referee Mr Tim Pearce said: βIt has been a great two days of tennis in a wonderful atmosphere. Great sportsmanship from all players and we were lucky with the weather.β
Supporters commented that it had been a great event and they had very much enjoyed coming to Burnham.
They especially complimented the members of the club on the facilities and commented on the excellent refreshments provided by club members particularly the world class bacon and egg sandwiches.
