WEPL Bristol & Somerset Second XI

Wembdon II 220-5 beat Ilminster 218 by five wickets

WEMBDON II took their win tally for the season to five with an empathic five-wicket victory over Ilminster on Saturday.

Chasing a mediocre 219 to win on a flat batting tack, Wembdon cruised to victory thanks to an unbeaten halfcentury from Adam Holliday.

After losing the toss Wembdon were to field first on a boiling hot day, and with these factors in mind they looked to make early inroads.

Tim Bennett took three wickets as Ilminster crumbled to 218 all out, while there were two wickets apiece for Pete Gliddon, Tom Lott and Will Pope.

Despite finding themselves on 60-4, Wembdon were always in control of the chase.

A 112-run partnership between Rawles (53) and Holliday (72no) put them in a strong position before Rawles went shortly after reaching 50.

This left 47 being needed with plenty overs remaining, and with Holliday in sparkling form, finishing on 72 not out, and 16-year-old Liam Pigden in fine form, Wembdon eased home with five wickets in hand.
