BREAN Golf Club hosted their 24th annual Pro-Celebrity-Am day, with the benefactor again being the Injured Jockeys Fund - a charity chosen by the House family who own the Leisure Park.

As always many familiar faces turned up to enjoy the day’s golf and these were joined by some new ones sampling the experience for the first time.

The course was presented in excellent condition for the 23 teams taking part, on a day when only a couple of short sharp showers fell and the sun also made a welcome appearance during the afternoon.

Brean Golf Club captain Paul Jones is no stranger to success in the event and he again had that winning feeling as he led home the golf club team.

He was joined by Steve Bateman, Graham Foy and Steven Eley as they racked up a formidable 85 point score that wouldn’t be beaten.

In the end they won by five from another Jones - Paul’s Uncle Eric, who led the Jones Bros Builders team made up of Eric, Phil Hodgson, Simon Baunton and Wayne Barrett.

Their 80 point score was matched by the Heineken sponsored team of Mark Short, Andy Horsborough, Paul Coumis and Ron Ganfield but the former had the better back nine score.

Rounding out the prizewinners was another Brean quartet in the shape of the Ladies team alongside Brean PGA Director of Golf Andrew March.

Ladies Captain Annie Williams, her Captain Elect Suzanne Hatfield and last year’s Captain Sheila Rouse handed in 77 points to edge out the Brean Seniors team in another countback.

The day was expertly organised by Kelly Davison and Deidre Wheadon at the Leisure Park and the competitors enjoyed a superb meal ahead of the prize giving, which all took place in the Tavern.
