WESSEX Water fisheries performances for the week ending June 8 were as follows:

HAWKRIDGE With 137 fish caught and a rod average of 2.5 Hawkridge fished well with Diawl Bach, Damsel, Buzzer, Cruncher and small Cats Whisker all effective on floating lines.

J. Gillman had the best bag limit of the week at 17lb 1oz. J. Enticott had a four-fish limit weighing 10lb 14oz which included a 3lb 8oz brown trout.

CLATWORTHY With 334 fish caught and a rod average of 3.0 it was a great week at Clatworthy.

The best bags were caught by R. Newton, weighing 21lb 7oz, and D. Holness, weighing 20lb for their five-fish limits.

Several other bags weighed 16lbs to 20lbs, while the best four-fish limit was caught by B. Hawkins .weighing 14lbs which included a 4lb 8oz rainbow.

Main tactics have been intermediate lines with Copper Head, Diawl Bach, Black Pennel and small Gold Head Montana.

Fish have also showed on the surface on Black Gnats, Pheasant Tail Nymphs and Damsels.

Fish have been spread all over the reservoir and should continue to do so, but the bays have fished well along with Rowes End and the dam area.

SUTTON BINGHAM Just 141 fish were caught with a rod average of 1.7 after heavy rain at the start of the week put a lot of turbidity in the water and the reservoir level rose by ten inches.

By the end of the week, due to maintenance on the valve tower, the water dropped by 12 inches and the fishing went upside down.

The sudden changes in the water level put the fish off feeding, so the catches went down and the rod average likewise.

Those anglers who caught fish were still on the small pattern flies. R. James took the best bag of five, weighing 14lbs, and B. Hoskins landed the best rainbow of 4lb 2oz.

At West Pond, sudden changes in the water level didn’t help the anglers either – nine rods caught 14 fish giving a rod average of 1.6.

T. Baker landed the best bag. weighing 24lb 10oz. and for the second week running A. Conachie took the best rainbow at 9lb.
