Ashcott & Shapwick 107 lost to Frocester 108-1 by nine wickets
ASHCOTT & Shapwick suffered their fourth defeat of the season as they went down by nine wickets to Frocester on Saturday.
Wayne Spencer (35) made his side’s only meaningful contribution as they slumped to 107 all out inside 30 overs, before Frocester cruised to their victory target with 22 overs to spare – with Gareth Harte (1-35) making Ashcott’s only breakthrough.
Having won the toss and elected to bat first at Pounds Close, Ashcott started in disastrous fashion as they were reduced to 16-5 - losing Tinnion, Karmarkar, Harte, Rudge and Edmunds inside the opening overs.
Spencer battled through at the other end, but was lacking any real support, as White (7) departed with the score on 46.
Spencer’s battling effort came to an end when he was caught and bowled by Paul Muchall, leaving only Ben Rudge (18no) and James Haggett (11) to carry Ashcott past the 100 mark.
In reply, Frocester lost only Michael Beard (20), caught by Steve Tinnion off the bowling of Harte.
Ashcott’s bowlers were economical, but had very little to play with as Frocester ticked along at a little over three runs an over.
Qureshi (38no) and O’Doherty (24no) were rarely troubled and eventually eased Frocester past their victory target in the 29th over.
Ashcott host Bristol this Saturday, 12.30pm start.
