JUNIOR Jay Buckingham fired an excellent bogey score of +7 to win the men’s Tope Trophy at Tiverton on Saturday.

Buckingham was assisted by birdies on the 5th, 15th and 17th and had his handicap cut from 12 to 10.

His nearest challengers in Division One were Peter Boax (+4), Alby Cruse (+3) and Rhys Cruse (+3), who shot a two-under gross 69.

Patrick Ellis scored +6 to win the Division Two prize ahead of Brian Phillips (+4).

Terry White had his handicap cut from 13 to 12 after winning the men's June Weekday Stableford with 41 points on Monday.

White birdied the 1st and 15th and topped Division One by two from Tom Hanson and Rhys Cruse, who shot his second sub-par round in three days with a gross 68.

Ben Daniel claimed the Division Two prize with 39, beating David Randell by two.

Colin Carey and Steve Buchanan have moved into the fifth round of the national Daily Mail Foursomes.

The Tiverton pair held off a strong fightback from Budleigh Town – the artisans from East Devon – to win 1 up at home.

Carol Scott came in with a one-over nett 75 to win the ladies' June Medal on Wednesday, topping the Silver Division by two from Charlotte Snow.

Amanda Moyes secured the Bronze Division One prize with 77, pipping ladies' captain Karen Allsopp on a countback, while Carol Clarke scored 76 to finish the top player in Bronze Division Two.

John Phripp partnered his grand-daughter Bethany Baker to victory in the Adult/Junior Foursomes on Sunday.

Phripp and Baker amassed 43 Stableford points amid sun, rain and wind to finish four clear of Nick Konig and Jay Buckingham.

Both pairs will represent Tiverton in the county finals, playing for the Graham Ruth Trophy, at Bigbury in September.

Mark Sangster and Dan Perry came third on 37 while John and Tom Hanson scored 36 to take fourth place on a countback from Colin Taylor and Mollie Pilling.

Steve Hosford, Danny McArdle and John Court carded 83 stableford points to finish the top home team in the veterans' three-ball open at Tiverton.

Tony Evans, Ian Wilson and Norman Webber came second with 80.

Tiverton’s John Phripp was among the best ‘away’ team alongside Oake Manor duo M Pyke and R Ingram (78).

Tiverton hold a slender four-hole lead after the home leg of their annual match against Orchardleigh.

With all the fourball matches played to a conclusion, Tiverton face an uphill task ahead of the away leg in September.

The ladies suffered a 4½-1½ defeat away at Dainton Park in the Devon League on Monday, which meant a 9-4½ reverse on points.

Julia Cole won 2 up while Pauline Hussey halved.
