WESSEX Water fisheries performances for the week ending June 1 were as follows: HAWKRIDGE With 188 fish caught and a rod average of 2.4 Hawkridge is still producing plenty of fish, according to ranger Gary Howe.

P. Southey had the largest fish of the week, weighing 6lb, which was included in a five-fish limit weighing 16lb 10oz.

Boat anglers enjoyed the best results with most reaching their limits.

Dry’s, Diawl Bach, Damsel, Buzzer and Cats Whisker are all working well for anglers on floating lines.

CLATWORTHY With 289 fish caught and a rod average of 2.3, fish are still being caught all over the lake, according to ranger Dave Pursey.

But with fresh cold water coming into the lake the fish were pushed down in the water level, so intermediate and sinking lines between 4 to 8 feet down, using Damsel, Montana and Nymph, patterns worked best.

Boats did well fishing the top bays and drifting out from the margins, while the banks fished well all along the lodge bank into Rowes End and Westcott Bay.

S. Noble had the best bag this week weighing 20lb 7oz, while P. Locke had a bag weight of 17lb 14oz for his ticket.

The best season ticket limit was caught by P Giles with 12lb for his four fish.

The best fish of the week was a 5lb 8oz rainbow caught by S Smith.

Anglers’ tactics should stay similar this week with the weather set to stay the same as last week, and with more fresh water expected to come into the lake intermediate and sinking lines will work best.

SUTTON BINGHAM With 359 fish caught and a rod average of 2.7, the fishing continues to be good at Sutton Bingham, near Yeovil, according to senior ranger Ivan Tansley.

The fish are still within the top four feet and anglers are having excellent results on the top fishing.

The main body of Sutton Bingham reservoir has been fishing the best with the odd angler taking their bags in the south arm, both from the bank and boat.

The best bag of five fish went to D. Plumridge, weighing 14lb 4oz, which included the best rainbow of 4lb 8oz.

The total returns were 133 rods landing 359 fish with a rod average of 2.7.

Those anglers not doing so well are still using large patterns of flies.

More limit bags have been taken on sizes 14 to 16 Black Buzzers and Diawl Bachs.

At West Pond, the eight rods that fished this week had good sport, catching 23 fish for a rod average of 2.9.

P. Maggs took the best bag of four, weighing 24lb 4oz, and A. Conachie landed the best rainbow of 9lb 8oz.

Again, on the top fishing took most of the fish and the angler who moved around to look for the fish had more success.

n ANGLERS at Hawkridge Reservoir, near Bridgwater, came up trumps recently after a combined catch of 212 fish.

The rod average at the reservoir continues to fish highly with the anglers averaging 3.1 fish per rod.

Buzzer, Damsel, Gold Ribbed Hares Ear and Montana on floating lines were all working well for the week ending May 18.

The best bag limit of the week was S. Costley, weighing 20lb 8oz.

Mr Short caught the largest rainbow, weighing in at a steady 10lb 7oz.
