WEPL Premier One
Bridgwater 152-3 (31.1ovs) beat Bristol 149-7 (33ovs) by seven wickets
ROBBIE Montgomery was the star of the show as Bridgwater beat a very strong Bristol side by seven wickets in a rain reduced game at The Parks on Saturday.
Montgomery took 3-29 to restrict Bristol to 149-7 from their 33 overs, before blasting 32 off of just 16 balls to see Bridgwater home with nine balls to spare.
On a pitch that played well throughout, Bristol were asked to bat first and a very good bowling performance from the home side saw them restrict Bristol to 149-7, with only Gloucestershire's Cameron Herring (47) and former professional Roger Sillence (35) making any real contribution to the total.
Robbie Montgomery (3-29) returned the best figures but all the bowlers were in top form aided by some excellent fielding and catches in the deep.
In reply, Bridgwater got off to a sound start as Chris Gange (54) and Cam Williams (25), deputising for the injured Andy Hallaran, put on 52 for the first wicket before the later was well caught at the wicket by Herring.
Todd Barrett was trapped in front before Mitch Windsor (27no) and Gange added 59 at the required rate to take the score to 119-3, despite an excellent spell from Neil Pollard (2-10).
With five overs left Montgomery was sent in to finish the job and he did in style blasting 32, in quick-fire time to see his side to an important win in Bridgwater's first home game of the season.
