ROB Hogg of McKinlays 1st Chard Wheelers, once again took on the best of the region’s top riders at the third round of the Team Tor 2000 summer series at Merryfield, near Ilminster.

The top Junior, who has just turned 17, got into an early break of three riders and did a lot of work on the front to ensure they stayed clear of the chasing bunch.

The tactic proved sound as they stayed well away and Hogg took a brilliant third place in the Elite/1st/2nd cat race.

He impressed top riders, including professionals with his work ethic, talent and determination and was delighted with the outcome.

At the same event the Wheelers’ youth riders were again well to the fore.

Max Taylor took victory in the Under-10s race from Jack Webb, while the ever- improving Jack Dickinson secured his maiden win in the Under-12s despite sprinting to the finish with a flat tyre.

Another newcomer to racing, Chris Burrows, gained a great second place behind Joe West in the Under-14 event and Max Hinds took third with Rowan Ellis fourth.

Under-16 Emily Attfield rode in the Ladies event and continued to enhance her reputation by earning second place after just being out-sprinted for the win.

In the men’s fourth category race Bob Foxwell continued his development with sixth position and gained more BC ranking points.

Magnus Larsen travelled to Derby for the British Schools Criterium championship and put in a tremendous sprint to take the bronze medal. Larsen is an outstanding all- round rider and has been working on his sprinting, obviously with good effect.

Saturday saw the staging of the C.S. Scorpion’s race at Merryfield, again with some top results from the clubs youngsters.

Jack Webb won the Under-10s and Evan Richards did like-wise in the Under-12 event. Rowan Ellis put in the ride of the day with a tremendous breakaway second place in the Under-14 race.

He rode with great pace and determination and did much of the front work for nearly ten miles and thoroughly deserved his reward. Ryan White took second place in a very tactical Under-16 event.

Racing this week is at the Shaftsbury town Centre Criterium on Sunday and next Tuesday (June 10) at Dunkeswell near Honiton.
