Premier League Cup - Southern Group Match
Somerset Rebels 55, Scunthorpe Scorpions 35
A STRONG performance in the second half of this contest saw the Somerset Rebels beat Scunthorpe Scorpions 55-35.
Scunthorpe posted their intent early, as Nicolai Klindt blasted from the tapes in Heat one to lead every inch of the way.
Thomas Jorgensen repeated the dose in the very next heat, jetting off the line to lead up from his team mate, Matt Williamson, and the close up Todd Kurtz.
As they have often proved, the Rebels are at their most dangerous when they are under pressure, and they proved the point by levelling the scores after taking a 'full house' from Heat four.
The next heat was shared, and it was that man Nicolai Klindt who repeated his flying start from heat one to lead up from Pontus Aspgren, and pull away from the second lap.
The Rebels moved into the lead for the first time after Heat six - Nick Morris and Ryan Douglas were quickly away and contested the run to the bend, with Morris just getting there first.
Heat seven saw a fairly level break - before Thomas Jorgensen made an outrageous jump at the start of Heat eight as the visitors levelled the scores at 24-24.
With the match still in the balance the Rebels moved into top gear, and quickly restored a four-point lead as the replied with a maximum of their own in Heat nine.
Number four quickly followed in Heat 10, but not before Nick Morris had made amends for a pedestrian start.
That victory was confirmed as the home side took Heat 13 by a 4-2 advantage, and from here on in it would be a matter of whether they could take all the available points from the encounter.
The Rebels sealed all three league points in Heat 14, as they posted a fifth 'full house' of the night, but they had to work for it in the initial stages.
