AT the tender age of 16, Queen’s College student Rebecca Wilde has already achieved spectacular success by winning over 300 medals – and she plans on gaining plenty more.

Rebecca is most proud of her medals for the Nationals, UK Schools games, English schools and Southern zonals.

Rebecca said: “I am particularly motivated by events that attract the strongest competitors and ones that I have to compete the most fiercely for.

“My short term goals are to qualify for the Commonwealth championships and to achieve success in the national events.

“My ultimate goal is to go to the Olympics, but there’s a long way to go before that.”

Rebecca attributes her success to a passion for swimming combined with healthy eating and a positive mental preparation.

“On race days I visualise my events in the morning and just before I compete in order to be psychologically prepared as well as physically ready”.

“Balancing school work can also be challenging, but Queen’s College gives me a lot of support and the successes make the sacrifices worth it.

“I have also learnt to overcome failures and difficulties, such as having glandular fever, which made me stronger and more motivated”.

Headmaster Chris Alcock said: “To win this many medals is a sensational achievement and clearly shows that Rebecca has the ambition and determination to go on to compete at international level. We wish her every possible success.”
