ELMORE Club added the Knockout Cup to their league championship at the Sampford Peverell and district league’s finals night on Wednesday.

Elmore, the last team to win the double in 2002, were presented with their trophies at Cullompton Rugby Club by county councillor John Berry.

Captains’ Cup – The first semi-final took place between Roger Lowman (Elmore Club) and Ric Norman (The Hounds).

After three hands Lowman was one point up but then Norman had a 15 spare and held on to win by three.

Then Wayne Cottrell (Settler Boys) and Angelo Binnacioni (Castaways) went on the alley, with the latter getting his nose ahead after two hands, and staying there.

In the final Binnacioni and Norman returned to the alley and after three hands Norman was one pin up. Then Binnacioni replied with a nine and inched ahead by three.

Norman went into the last leg needing eight to draw and nine to win – and came up with the goods.

n Individual Cup – Steve Broomfield (Catherine Wheel) took on Alistair Bussell (Brass Monkeys) in the first semi-final. After the first hand was shared Bussell pulled away to a convincing win.

Bryan Sharland (Bickleigh) had a close game against Peter Rosser (Barley Mow), winning by just two pins.

Bussell was again in top form in the final, starting the game with a 15 spare. Sharland was always playing catch up and a 16 spare in the fifth hand saw Bussell in contention for the highest score of the night. A last hand of eight won him that trophy.

n Knockout Cup Final – Globe Appley B took to the alley first in the final against Elmore Club and after two legs were 21 pins adrift.

They won the third leg, but then Elmore won the next by 17 to leave GAB with a mountain to climb.

Elmore went into the last two legs with a 37 pin advantage, and added a further 12 pins to that to secure the double.
