MARTYN Boley took 5-37 for Wedmore, but it wasn’t enough to stop them from slipping to a five run defeat at Westlands Sports II in Division Two of the Somerset Cricket League.
Simon Boley also took 3-29 as Westlands were bowled out for 163 in the 44th over – but Wedmore fell agonisingly short, despite 39 from Phil Manners and 30 from Phil Patch.
Elsewhere in the division, Huntspill & District slipped to a heavy defeat at Street II, going down by 101 runs.
Chasing 225 to win, Huntspill were bowled out for just 123, with P Appusamy scoring 41.
Earlier, Sam Lillycrop had taken 2-35 with the ball.
In Division Five, East Huntspill had an afternoon to forget as they were bowled out for 66 by Hardington & West Coker.
The visitors had little trouble reaching their target and did so for the loss of just two wickets.
East Huntspill II were beaten by nine wickets by Spaxton in Division 8S, with the latter chasing down 166 for the loss of just one wicket.
K Watts (48) and K Crenol (35) top scored for East in a first innings total of 160 all out – a total that proved to be well below par.
Half centuries from J Gamlin (63no) and Charles Curtin (56) powered Wedmore II to a convincing win at home to Huish & Langport.
R Gamlin also added 46 as Wedmore posted 224-4 batting first – in reply Huish could only manage 123-5, R Gamlin was the pick of the bowlers with 2-12.
