RAY French returned the best score of the day with 40 points to win division two of the Stableford at Burnham & Berrow Golf Club last weekend.

Players enjoyed glorious sunshine and benign conditions - and provided they kept the ball out of the rough, which has taken off over the past couple of weeks, a good score was possible.

Martin Milverton beat John Perry on a countback for second place and Frank Ryan third with 38.

Division one was won by Adam Turrell with 37 points, his back nine which included two’s at both the 14th and 17th holes proving decisive in beating Peter Tomlinson on a countback.

Third place went to Jared Poole and 4th to Glyn Petrie who both scored 36.

Sundays’ centenary Salver which is a mixed bowmaker was won by Mell Bell, Ros Gait and Mike Mccarthy with 46 points giving them a three point margin of victory over Kay Beaumont, Ian Moreton and Christine Richardson.

Once again competitors enjoyed the glorious spring sunshine.

The previous weeks Tomkinson Cup was played in less favourable conditions and the 34 points scored by Richard Turner was good enough to take the honours beating Junior Captain Charlie Huggins on the back nine after the pair had tied on the same score.

The earlier starters had slightly more favourable conditions and 34 points was a very creditable score in the gale force winds which swept across the course.

The windy conditions provided a good home advantage for the Burnham Berrow team who defeated Enmore Park 3-2 in the fourth round of the Mail on Sunday inter club knockout tournament.
