GOLF: Great Scott! Bradley clinches Open victory at Tiverton

TEENAGER Bradley Scott defied the wet and windy conditions to win the men’s 36-hole open for the Brayne-Baker Cup at Tiverton on Sunday.
The 14-year-old followed up a nett 74 in the morning with a best of the day 69 in the afternoon for a one-over aggregate of 143.
Scott recovered from having two sevens in the first round with the help of birdies on the 5th and 12th in the second.
The 10-handicapper triumphed on a countback from fellow Tiverton player Harry Konig, who had scores of 73 and 70 and was the only other competitor to better par in the afternoon.
Scott’s younger brother Jay was the only player to beat his handicap in the morning with his nett 70, and eventually finished third on 144.
Konig, a scratch-handicapper, won the gross prize with his scores of 73 and 70.
All the prizes were won by home players, as John Phripp was fourth, Rhys Cruse fifth and Nick Konig sixth in the main event.

Roger Fetherston carded 38 points to win the men's May Weekday Stableford on Monday.
Fetherston had his handicap cut from 15 to 14 after topping the Silver Division by two from Nick Lear, Dale Flint, Andy Hill and Dan Smith.
Les Jones was the only player to better his handicap in Division Two, scoring 37 to win by three from Stuart Spence.

Colin Carey and Steve Buchanan, Tiverton’s representatives in the men's Daily Mail Foursomes, are through to the fourth round of the national tournament.
After receiving a bye in the first round, they won 2 up away at Minehead and then 3 and 2 at home to Weston-super-Mare.
Jan Carroll claimed the Silver Spoon after winning the ladies' May Stableford in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support on Wednesday.
The 20-handicapper posted 35 points to pip Maureen Postles on a countback in the Silver Division, with Oki Northwood third on 29.
Anne Warne (33) scooped the Bronze Division One prize ahead of Gail Stuckey (32), while Ros Williams, Margot Seamer and Liz Hall all scored 31
