Berrow battle back at Langford
Somerset County Premier
Langford Rovers 2000 1, Berrow 2
BERROW won their penultimate game of the season at bogey side Langford Rovers on Saturday.
The visitors were forced to win the hard way after going behind midway through the second half, but goals from Steve Leaf and Shaun Lismore ensured Berrow left with all three points.
The first half was very much a battle against the elements, but credit to both sides as they both attempted to keep the ball on the floor without creating many chances.
Jeff Read had a shot blocked whilst Jack Taylor and Steve Leaf’s work rate was causing the Langford defence problems - but the final ball was often lacking.
The second half began well for Berrow with Luke McErlain and Ash Catlow taking control of the midfield - and although they were now playing against the wind, Berrow kept the ball well and when Leaf went on a run down the right, his cross was met by Taylor at the back post, but he couldn’t keep his shot down.
Scott Lismore and Pete John replaced Morgan and Osgood with 30 minutes remaining, but five minutes later a challenge in the Berrow box led to Langford’s tricky left winger earning a penalty, which he calmly converted.
Berrow continued to play some decent football whilst striving for a breakthrough and it came with 20 minutes remaining - Taylor laid off to Shaun Lismore and his shot was well saved, but Leaf showed great composure to curl the ball around the keeper for a well deserved goal.
Only one side looked like winning the game now as Berrow forward - and with 10 minutes remaining they scored the winning goal - Leaf and Taylor again combining to set up Shaun Lismore, who hit a great shot from 18 yards into the roof of the net.
Read and Penfold held firm at the back and captain McErlain nearly extended the lead, hitting the cross bar with a 25 yard free kick, as Berrow held on for the win.
