Old Bristolians Westbury II 171-7, Wembdon II 174-8 - Wembdon won by two wickets

WEMBDON II continued their strong start to the season in a new division with a narrow two-wicket victory over Old Bristolians Westbury.

Chasing 172 to win, Rich Weber (40) and Mike Watts (34) helped Wembdon to their target with ten balls to spare.

Earlier, Aaron Phillips (2-25), Tom Lott (2-35) and Jack Lowe (2-31) took two wickets apiece to help restrict the visitors.

Again the toss was won by the Wembdon skipper Jenkins, who elected to field.

Tim Bennett took the opening wicket, before the second wicket pairing put on a great stand taking that score to over one hundred, before Jack Lowe made the break through and then got the next.

Wembdon's innings got off to a slow start before Richie Weber decided to go after the bowling - and that he did in fine style finding the boundary with style.

With Phillips (21) and Weber (40) at the crease, things were looking good for Wembdon but unfortunately both were to fall in quick succession.

Jack Lowe (19) cam to the crease and played a patient innings which was what was needed especially as two more wickets fell quickly at the other end.

Then Mike Watts strolled to crease and in 15 balls was able to smash 34 quick runs to put Wembdon in control - but after hitting one six too many he fell, as did the Lowe.

With Wembdon needing two runs to win, Bennett played the most audacious switch hit through the covers for four to hit the winning runs.

Next week, Wembdon II travel to Minehead.
