Middlezoy end on sour note

This is The West Country: Middlezoy end on sour note Middlezoy end on sour note

MIDDLEZOY'S season ended in disappointment on Wednesday evening when they were beaten 1-5 at home by Dundry Athletic.

Jamie Temlett scored Zoy's only goal of the afternoon in a lacklustre end to the season.

Following a draw at Burnham last Monday, Middlezoy were squeezed out of the promotion places by Frome Collegians, courtesy of a better goal difference and miss out on a third consecutive promotion by a whisker.

But with all things considered, the team have had a very successful season first season in Division One of the Somerset County League - and first team manager Johnny Warren believes they will come back stronger next season.

He said: "In the end a couple of poor results have cost us, but we have had a great season which has included wins against the three teams that have been promoted.

“We have also had two decent cup runs and are more than a match for the teams we have come up against.

“The players can hold their heads high for their efforts this season because let's not forget that two years ago we were playing in the first division of the Taunton and District League.

“People are starting to realise that this is a club moving in the right direction on and off the pitch, and we will be back better and stronger next season."

Goals from Dan Luce (2), Samuel Peppin and Craig Wright earned Zoy a draw in a goal frenzy at Burnham Unitred on Monday, but it was Wednesday's heavy defeat against Dundry that cost them dearly.
