MARK Rattenberry, along with 15-year-old Jevan Cockbain, both of Tiverton Weightlifting Club, enjoyed a highly successful day in the IAWA (UK) British Powerlifting Championships at Burton.
Rattenbury, competing in the 50+ 65kg category, started the competition with a sound 125kg squat. Cockbain, who’s in the J14-15 75kg grouping this year, also posted a 125kg squat to smash his previous world record by 7.5kgs.
They then moved on to the bench press, where Rattenbury nailed 80kg. Cockbain beat the previous British best twice to finish with a very strong-looking 75kgs, after his three attempts.
The deadlift was the last competitive element, which saw Rattenberry up his world record by 2.5kgs with a lift of 167.5kgs to end the day with a 372.5kgs total and retain his title.
Cockbain furthered his world best by 5kgs, finishing with a powerful 165kgs to conclude his day’s work and a very impressive 365kgs total.
This helped in him also securing second in the Open category and taking the Best Junior award.
