THE Somerset Cricket League got underway this weekend, but it wasn’t a great start to the season for the majority of the region’s teams.

Huntspill & District slipped to 32-run defeat at the hands of Wincanton in Division 2 after being bowled out for just 88.

Needing 121 to win, only C. Slack (35) and M.

Counsell (14) made it into double figures for Huntspill – who fell well short of their target.

Earlier, Sam Lillycrop had taken 5-38 and D.

Biddiscombe 2-22 as Huntspill bowled Wincanton out for 120.

Elsewhere in the division, Wedmore were beaten by three wickets by Street II, despite 38 from M. Boley.

Batting first, Wedmore were skittled for 110 to leave Street with what looked like a straightforward run chase.

But N. Emery (4-32) and I. Harris (3-16) made life difficult for the batsmen as Street crept over the line.

The Division 5 clash between East Huntspill and Bishops Lydeard was washed out – and in Division 8S, East Huntpsill were crushed by 94 runs by Middlezoy.

Chasing 175 for victory, East crumbled to 80 all out, with only K. Crenol (18no) and D. West (13) scraping into double figures.

In Division 9NW, Huntspill & District II game against Uphill Castle Crusaders fell victim to the weather – and, in 9SE, Wedmore II beat Taunton St Andrew’s B by 31 runs.
