THE Somerset Rebels need to claw back a 14- point first leg deficit when they face Workington at the Oaktree Arena on Friday night if they wish to book a place in the Quarter-Finals of the Premier League Knock-Out Cup.

Somerset, the defending Knock-Out Cup holders, lost the first leg of their first round tie against the Comets 52-38 on Saturday night.

If Somerset need any inspiration, they need look back no further than their last two home matches which have seen them win by 34 and 40 points, respectively – though Workington, the pundits’ favourites for honours this year, will provide stern opposition, as their win at Newcastle on Sunday proved.

The Rebels go into the match without their number one Nick Morris, who is required to ride for his Elite League side, the Swindon Robins that night and have booked Newcastle’s Stuart Robson to come in as a guest replacement for Morris.

Somerset team manager Garry May said: “To make up 14 points certainly isn’t an impossible task.

“We showed just what we are capable of in last Friday’s home match when we beat a very much fancied Ipswich side by 40 points, so, as the saying goes, it’s never over until that lady starts to sing – I just hope that she’s wearing a Somerset scarf on Friday night.”
