Somerset County First Division

Middlezoy 3, Saltford 1

AFTER three points in midweek thanks to a 6-0 thrashing of Purnells, Middlezoy claimed a third straight victory on Saturday against a disciplined Saltford side.

Zoy were, however, made to pay for a slow start when Saltford forward Andy May opened the scoring inside two minutes with a close-range header.

The hosts were level on 26 minutes when centre back Tom Brown found the net after a sustained spell of pressure, finishing well from a Dan Luce delivery.

Middlezoy began to take control of the game and went close to taking the lead when Lance Turner tried his luck with a free-kick which went agonisingly close.

After the break, the home side improved with Andy Smith influential in the midfield. After a good spell of possession, Jamie Temlett’s shot was superbly saved by Joe Stevens in the Saltford goal, but Mike Southgate was on hand to bundle home the rebound for his fourth goal in two games on 71 minutes.

Middlezoy rounded things off in the final minute when Southgate unselfishly supplied the pass for Craig Wright to slot home from close range.
