WELLINGTON manager Mike Hawes says he and his side are looking forward a long rest period over the summer after a ‘marathon season’.

Hawes’ side take on league champions Bradford Town in their final game of the season on May 3 after recording a win and a defeat from their Easter fixtures.

Wellington were beaten 2-0 by Barnstaple on Good Friday, before drawing 2-2 with Wincanton on Easter Monday – and Hawes had mixed feelings about the two results.

He said: “We’re slightly disappointed. Barnstaple scored from a set piece, which they were always dangerous from with two big centre halves and after that we didn’t look like scoring.

“Against Wincanton we came back well, but switched off again for their goals, which is disappointing. When it got to 2-2, it could have gone either way and Jake Viney pulled off a great save in the last minute.

“We’ll give it a good go against Bradford. We’ve got nothing to lose – and after that we’ll have a long rest over the summer, a good two months off. It’s been a marathon season, so I’ll appreciate the rest."
