WINDWHISTLE Seniors’ match team entertained Sidmouth Golf Club seeking their first win of the season.

In a well contested match – with three games being decided on the 18th green – the hosts accomplished their mission, winning 4-2.

Captain Alan Davis & partner set the scene with a victory in game one.

This was followed by a comprehensive win by Trevor Dobson & Andy Beale.

Barrie Heath & Robin Flower then lost 3&2. and with the next two games being drawn, all depended on the final game when Norman Markby & Mick Aldridge inflicted a narrow defeat over their opponents to secure an overall victory.

Results: Alan Davis & Roger Stone won 2 & 1; Trevor Dobson & Andy Beale won 4 & 2; Barrie Heath & Robin Flower lost 3 & 2; Alan Dowley & Barry Singleton halved; Stuart Pope & Keith Potter halved; Norman Markby & Mick Aldridge won by 2 holes.

Meanwhile, 18 members entered the three man discard competition.

Taking advantage of the three holes discard rules, the winners were the trio led by Mike Light with an unassailable 86 points, some six points ahead of their nearest rivals.

Result: 1 Mike Light, John Pearce & Ted Bryden (86); 2 Maurice Arnold, Tony Johnson & Brian Frost (80); 3 John Bonney, Keith Harper & Tony Stenhouse (75).

A total of 52 members entered the April medal qualifying tournament last Wednesday.

The strong northerly wind frustrated the golfers and no player managed a sub par round.

In Division 1, Barrie Heath took the honours with a battling one over par round of 71. The best in Division 2 was Barry Singleton who scored 73.

Results: division 1 – 1 Barrie Heath (71), 2 Ed Paolini (72), 3 Alan Chance (74). Division 2 – 1 Barry Singleton (73), 2 Richard Hall (74), 3 Chris Denman (75).

A limited field took part in the three man Texas scramble on Friday.

In a one-sided affair, the winners were the team led by Danny Dowell triumphed by three shots.

Result: 1 Danny Dowell, Bob Barrow & Barry Singleton (58.25); 2 Ed Paolini, Tony Stenhouse & Andy Beale (61.30); 3 Trevor Dobson, Brian Hodder & John Pearce (61.66).
