IN division one of the Highbridge & District Skittles League Bombers only needed to win their last match to be champions again.

They took a giant step this week after they defeated the Gunners by 26 pins at the Bridge after scoring 537.

Tony Porter 85, John Lovibond 80 and Keith Morgan 71 were the chief scorers for Bombers, but Lee Trumpery and Ben Sharland both surpassed Porter’s 85, both scoring 86, and can consider themselves unlucky to be on the losing side.

The Poachers’ title hopes took a major blow at the Orchard Inn where they went down by 28 pins to the Snurgers.

The Poachers must win their last match and hope Bombers lose to force a play-off.

The Tryers rattled up 537 as they defeated the Little Acorns by 28 pins.

The Tryers will hope the Poachers slip up in their last match, and if they win they will force a play-off for the runners-up spot.

The player of the night was Graham Blake for the Steamers with a remarkable 91 at the Victoria Hotel, helping his side to a massive 83-pin drubbing of the condemned Robins.

In division two, the leaders, Social Club ended a four-match losing streak as they convincingly defeated The Hedgejumpers by three pins at the Brent Knoll Inn.

The win keeps them two points clear of Odds & Ends and victory next week will give them the title.

Off the Rails defeated the Wanderers by 25 pins, and they look like finishing third.

The division three title has three teams fighting for it. Nobby’s One are favourites after beating Rovers last week by 20 pins and lead by a single point, but a slip-up will let the Brent Knoll Inn or Alleycats steal the title.

Alleycats defeated the Berrow Hotel by 37 pins at the Bristol Bridge, and the Brent Knoll Inn were 32 pins too good for the Railway Burtle at the Watchfield Inn.

In division four, Outsiders were crowned champions last week after they saw off the Lymp Dicks by 39 pins.

Angus Bowden starred with 76 as The Outcasts settled for runners-up spot after they cruising past the Legionaires by 54 pins.

The White Rebels will finish third if they win their last match after they beat stablemates the Home Guard by 28 pins.
