Somerset Women’s League, Division 2
Winsham United 6, Team Mendip 1
FOLLOWING a run of four straight wins at the start of the season, Winsham United suffered their first defeat at Team Bath back in November, but on Sunday they gained revenge with a 6-1 home victory against the same opposition.
Winsham took the lead in the fourth minute when a shot by Sam Caddy went under the body of keeper Georgina Godbey.
Two more goals by Caddy put the hosts in a commanding position by the tenth minute.
Chrissie Smith added a fourth midway through the half and it wasn’t until three minutes before the interval that Ruth Gibson in the Winsham goal had a shot to save.
The visitors defended much better after the break and the home side had to wait until the 65th minute to increase their lead with a goal by Trish Bishop.
Mendip reduced the arrears ten minutes later as Smith’s clearance rebounded off Roxy Newman into the net.
But an excellent through ball by Shell Carvell in the 87th minute allowed Caddy to complete the scoring with a well-placed shot to the right of the keeper.
