FISHING: First class carp catch at Durleigh

This is The West Country: FISHING: First class carp catch at Durleigh FISHING: First class carp catch at Durleigh

CARP fishing at Durleigh is very good at the moment thanks to the mild weather.

Carp have been caught all around the lake, especially from the shallows where Corey McKay caught a 25lb mirror and a 24lb linear.

The lifebuoy swim is also producing from range.

Silver fishing was outstanding in February and March. On March 27, Martin Addicott and Steve Chick bagged up from the lawns using bandums at 25 yards, and the week before Steve caught 62lb of silvers on pellet. Both anglers have been hauling in quality bream.

Hawkridge continues to fish very well, producing plenty of quality fish and excellent rod averages.

Out of the 80 anglers visiting, over 70 caught fish and the majority of those bagged up.

Nigel Townsend caught the biggest of the week, a cracking 12lb rainbow, which formed part of the largest bag, weighing in at a very healthy 28lb 8oz.

Paul Dove caught a nice 8lb 4oz rainbow from the layby where he took a five-fish limit for 17lb 12oz fishing just below the surface.

It was also a good week at Clatworthy with R.

Mortimer and D. Vickers both having bag limits of 17lb 8oz.

The best four-fish season ticket limit was taken by D Prescott, weighing 14lb 8oz.

The best fish of the week was a 6lb 1oz rainbow caught by R. Mortimer, but J. Hill had an exceptional 6lb brown caught on a home tied fly.

It was another pleasing week at Sutton Bingham, though the rod average has reduced to three fish per angler, though this does not mean the fishing has dropped off.

Due to the high pressure from the bank over recent weeks, it seems the fish have moved away from the sides into deeper water, so it’s down to the angler to move about and locate fish that have not been pressurised, ideally down the southern arm.
