Cheltenham Town Ladies 1 Bridgwater Town Ladies 2

OWN ladies put last week’s drubbing at Frome behind them to produce their best performance of the season.

Currently in second place, Cheltenham probably thought this would be an easy victory, but Town had other ideas.

Manager Ben Norman’s positional changes seem to have had a positive result.

Town took the game to Cheltenham from the start and full back, Chelsey Pitchers saw her shot come back off the bar in the 15th minute.

A corner in the 20th minute saw Town take a deserved lead. Jess Chappell’s cross was headed in at the far post by Sarah Moore.

Cheltenham got back into the game, but Town went closest again in the 30th minute when a shot by Georgia Coles beat the keeper only to come back off the bar.

However, Corrinne Gillard was following up and put the rebound away from six yards, to give Town a two goal lead.

Anusia Rourke also struck the bar just before half time with a flicked shot, and there was still time for Cheltenham to have a shot cleared of the line by Amber Moule.

At the start of the second half, Cheltenham push bodies forward and started to put Town's defence under pressure but they held firm.

Rourke then shot narrowly wide for Town and the rest of the half was fairly even.

About seven minutes from the end Cheltenham pulled a goal back following a goalmouth scramble from a corner, and this set up a nervous few minutes for Town Ladies.

Just before the end a Cheltenham corner swung in and hit the bar, and from the scramble Town keeper Ami Ward kept the ball out with her face, which then hit the bar and was cleared.

Next Sunday (Easter Sunday), the Ladies are at home to league leaders St Nicholas with a 2pm kick-off at Fairfax Park.
