Burnham 26, Penryn 12

BURNHAM's slim hopes of making the play-offs remain intact after a 26-12 bonus point victory over Penryn on Saturday.

Mike Hocking, Tom Chaffey, Sam Coles and a penalty try ensured Burnham took maximum points from the game, while Piper kicked three conversions.

Following a period of prolonged early pressure, the referee awarded a penalty try for a fourth consecutive scrum infringement.

This gave Burnham the impetus they needed and after another period of domination, Mike Hocking athletically gathered on Penryn's 22 and proceeded to smash his way through four tackles before reaching the line - Piper converted.

Burnham were now prepared to attack at any opportunity and after a long probing kick from Vunipola, Burnham reclaimed the ball and recycled it twice, allowing Piper's deft little kick to provide Tom Chaffey the chance to race over the line.

On the stroke of halftime, Penryn's forwards at last managed to gain some worthwhile possession and rumbled over en bloc.

Nothing much can be said about the next 30 minutes until at last Burnham managed to shake off the shackles, as Sam Coles charged down a kick before showing blinding speed and race in for a fourth try.

After a succession of penalties, Penryn finally created an overlap to score out wide - but Burnham were rarely troubled from this point on.

Burnham are home to Bude his Saturday (April 12), 3pm kickoff.
