CRUSADERS grabbed second spot in Division 1 of the Puriton & District Skittles League with a 14 -pin away win at King William against Barstewards, thanks to 63s from Tim Hoban and Rob Haggett.

They pip Farmer Boys by two points as the Farmer Boys had an emphatic home win over Stop-Outs, with Paul Mantelow hitting 73 for the victorious team.

Somerset Vaults, who had been in contention for second spot for the last few weeks lost again, this time to Knowle Otters at the Knowle Inn, by 46 pins and therefore slip back to fourth.

Pirates won again, this time at home to Foxes and Ferrets, thanks to 80 from Adrian Tew.

This win gives them 55 points for the season, 14 clear of second place - what a season they have had!

The closest title race in Division 2 was settled by an emphatic away win from Nomads at bottom side Herdsmen, they raced into a 51 pin lead after four hands, but then eased off to enjoy their success. Simon Coles and Andy Bond both hit 72 for the winning team. This win gave them a three point margin over Polden Turkeys and Wasters, the Turkeys winning by 11 at Oddsquad to join Wasters in second place, who after leading the table for most of the season have stumbled on the final run in, they managed to lose at home to Haymakers in what turned out to be a close encounter.

Closest match of the night was at the Coopers Arms in Highbridge, with Ruggerites holding on for a one pin win over Huntspill Boys, who only needed 60 on the last hand, but hit 58
