White Eagles 3, Burnham Ladies 6

BURNHAM saved one of their best team performances for the last match of the season as they pulled off this stunning win against all the odds.

Playing away in the heat and with Eagles fighting for a top two finish in the league, Burnham were already up against it.

With the bare 11 including two juniors and a third choice goalkeeper, they then suffered two injuries in a roller coaster first half, which they played the majority of with just 10 players.

They took the lead with their first attack from the hit off - Chelsea Fisher getting on the end of a fine team move and striking in from top of the D.

Eagles levelled from a short before Burnham went back in front again from a short corner of their own.

Caroline Hunt fierce strike taking a deflection off a defender to send it high into the roof of the net.

Eagles again equalised despite Jenna Bushell's brave effort to clear off the line before Burnham made it 3-2. Sarah Johnson won and took a free hit on the right just outside the D and her pass found Carly Bush in the D to crack home her 11th of the season.

Not to be outdone, Eagles scored again as this match see sawed back and forth and threatened to move into double figures before half time.

There was still one more goal to come before the interval and it was Burnham who got it with the move of the match, finished by Kerry Harvey to make it 4-3.

The Blues shored things up in the second half and showed a more gritty and determined side as they defended their slender lead.

Burnham finally knocked the stuffing out of the home team with a decisive fifth goal - taking a quick hit out from the back Ballard found Fisher who travelled the whole of the left side of the pitch on her reverse stick before passing to Edmundson to deservedly get her name on the score sheet.

Edmundson then turned provider for Burnhams sixth and it was Harvey who again benefitted, this time with a tap in at the far post - making sure she achieved top goal scorer for the season with 18.
