Kingsbridge 9, Burnham on Sea 23

BURNHAM put on a storming away show to topple Kingsbridge 23-9 on Saturday.

Burnham's superior set piece play was dominant enough to deter Kingsbridge, as well as their determination and resolve, saw them through this encounter - in the end comfortably.

From the start Burnham set out their stall by ruthlessly destroying Kingsbridge's scrum, so much so that after just five minutes, Blake was able to pick up from the base, draw the defence and slip the ball to Tim Piper who dummied in and out before sliding to the line.

Kingsbridge added three penalties to go into a 9-5 lead, but Burnham replied with a second try as Stuart Blake claimed another pushover.

Throughout the second half Burnham kept Kingsbridge totally at bay, firstly with a couple of penalties from Piper.

Tom Chaffey’s huge boot kept Kingsbridge pinned back in their own territory – and it was following another howitzer of a kick, that Blake stole a lineout and forced his way over to seal victory.

This was Burnham at their imperious best from one to 15, and they host Penryn this Saturday (3pm kick-off).
